Pakistan's star opener, Fakhar Zaman, has officially confirmed that he has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Reports had already suggested that Zaman would not be travelling with the Pakistan squad to Dubai for the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash.

On Thursday, the left-handed batter took to platform X to make the announcement official.

"Representing Pakistan on the biggest stage is an honour and dream of every cricketer in this country. I have been privileged enough to represent Pakistan multiple times with pride. Unfortunately I’m now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but surely Allah is the best planner. Grateful for the opportunity. I will be backing our boys in green from home.

This is only just the beginning, the comeback will be stronger than the setback 💪🏼,"  Fakhar tweeted.

Why Is Fakhar Zaman Out?

Reports suggest Fakhar is dealing with chest muscle pain, which has ruled him out of the tournament. His replacement in the squad is expected to be Imam-ul-Haq, who last played an ODI for Pakistan in October 2023.

Fakhar’s absence is a major blow for Pakistan, especially considering his past performances against India. In the 2017 Champions Trophy final, he played a match-winning knock, scoring 114 runs off 106 balls. His innings helped Pakistan post a massive total of 338/4, leading to a memorable victory over India by 180 runs.

Pakistan is already missing another key player, Saim Ayub, and there were also concerns about Haris Rauf’s fitness, though he has recovered in time for the tournament.

With Fakhar unavailable, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel opened the batting in Pakistan’s first match of the tournament at the National Stadium. However, they couldn’t give the team a strong start. Pakistan will now have to adjust their strategy as they move forward in the competition.
