Rohit Sharma reacting to two completely different scenarios [Source: @OneCricketApp/x]
Rohit Sharma dropped a sitter during India’s opening match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against Bangladesh in Dubai. Sharma’s moment of fielding blunder also denied Axar Patel a rare opportunity of grabbing an ODI hat-trick, with Jaker Ali making the most of his reprieve by compiling a cautious half-century for Bangladesh.
Notably, Rohit Sharma’s reaction after dropping the catch was seemingly quite reminiscent to that of his 2024 T20 World Cup winning celebration back in June last year.
Rohit Sharma’s reaction after drop shares similarity
Indian captain Rohit Sharma banged the turf and profusely apologized to Axar Patel after dropping the catch of Bangladesh’s number seven batter Jaker Ali. The moment drew immense similarity with his celebration right after Team India won the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa in the West Indies back in June last year.
Rohit Sharma’s similar reactions, albeit under two contrasting scenarios, quickly caught the attention of several Indian cricket fans on social media.
Nonetheless, Jaker Ali made the most of his early reprieve by listing 68 fighting runs for Bangladesh. He even shared a 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Towhid Hridoy after the Bangladesh team had slipped to 35-5 in just 8.3 overs.
Marking the opening match for both sides in the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat first. Captain Shanto, opening batter Soumya Sarkar and dashing all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz were all dismissed cheaply early in the innings to Indian new ball pacemen Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana.
