In a significant development, the ICC has acted against Pakistan and slapped the Mohammad Rizwan-led side with a 5% fine of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in their first Champions Trophy 2025 match at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Notably, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first in the opening match. However, the Men in Green failed to bowl their overs in time and were guilty of being one over short of targeted time.

Pakistan Fined 5% Match Fees

The ICC issued a press release where they announced imposing a 5% fine of their match fees on Pakistan. "In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," read ICC's statement.

Further, Mohammad Rizwan also pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the fine imposed by the ICC. Talking about Pakistan, nothing went right for the Men in Green on Wednesday against New Zealand as they suffered a 60-run defeat.

Why Did Pakistan Fail To Bowl Their Overs In Time?

Notably, Pakistan is a seam-heavy team. They like to rely on their pacers to get the breakthrough. Thus, it usually takes them more time to bowl out their overs. Further, Rizwan took an ample amount of time in setting the field and planning tactics that also disturbed the flow of events.

To top that, the match was halted on several occasions as Fakhar Zaman got injured, Tom Latham suffered a knock on the head that led to the delay.
