India convincingly managed to chase the target of 229 set by the Bangladesh side in the 2nd game of the Champions Trophy 2025 courtesy of Shubman Gill's fantastic 101* and Mohammed Shami's exceptional fifer. Earlier, India bowled out Bangladesh for 228 and then, finished the game with six wickets to spare.

Here's how BAN vs IND panned out in Dubai:

Shami, Axar Rock Bangladesh To The Core But Jaker, Hridoy Fight Back

Opting to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Bangladesh side, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, were in deep trouble early on in their innings as Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana destroyed their top order.

The wickets kept tumbling one after the other like a pack of cards as the Bangladeshi batters were finding it extremely challenging on a wicket that looked a bit tacky. Shami was the first one to start off as he picked Soumya Sarkar in the first over. Then, Rana dismissed their skipper, Shanto, for a two-ball duck.

Bangladesh were 26 for three at once stage when Axar Patel came into the attack. He dismissed opener Tanzid Hasan and experienced Mushfiqur Rahim on consecutive deliveries to put Bangladesh in further trouble. However, the hat-trick delivery turned out to be in favour of Bangladesh as, despite getting an edge, Jaker Ali survived courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s dropped catch.

After that, going forward, both batters Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali took control of the situation as they batted brilliantly for this sixth wicket partnership, bringing Bangladesh back into the game.

Hridoy's Maiden Century Helps Tigers Recover As Shami Picks Fifer

The rest of their innings was indeed a recovery of some sort for Bangladesh Tigers who, at once stage 35 for five down, somehow managed to reach 189 when Jaker fell for 68 as the duo combined to stage an unbelievable 154-run partnership.

While Jaker made an outstanding 68, his partner Hridoy was the real star of the show. He batted till the end of the innings and scored a magnificent maiden century against the strong Indian bowling lineup. Towhid Hridoy smashed 100 off exactly 118 deliveries with six fours and two sixes to his name and was the last batter to be dismissed from the bowling lineup.

Shami was really outstanding with five for 53 in his 10 overs, while Rana picked three, whereas Akshar was again brilliant with 2/43. Courtesy of Hridoy’s brilliant effort, Bangladesh managed to achieve 228 on the board after playing 49.4 overs.

Openers Begins Chase Successfully But India Lose Three

India, chasing 229 for victory, started off brilliantly, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill taking control of the situation. They went on against the Tigers with their aggressive approach.

Men in Blue achieved 50 runs in the eighth over, while skipper Rohit, who was outstanding in his knock of 41 from 36 deliveries with four fours, was dismissed on the very last ball of the powerplay as Taskin Ahmed got his number.

India were 69 for one after 10 overs when in came the experienced batter Virat Kohli, who struggled against the bowlers, playing nine consecutive dot balls to start his innings. At the same time, he brought his first run on the 10th delivery. Despite starting off exceptionally slowly, Kohli scored 22 from 38 deliveries with just a single boundary. He soon played a rash cut shot against Rishad Hossain, which Soumya Sarkar caught at point, ending Kohli’s struggle at the crease.

As soon as Kohli left, India were looking to rebuild their innings with Shreyas Iyer, the new partner joining Shubman Gill, who looked confident with his approach. But unfortunately, Iyer too departed for just 15 as India were reduced to 133 for three, with 96 more required for victory.

Gill Continues Purple Patch While Rahul Provided Necessary Support To Help India Cross The Line

Despite all the trouble happening at the other end, India’s experienced opener, Gill, went on to score his half-century off 69 deliveries, keeping one end concrete while wickets kept tumbling from the other. After Iyer’s departure, India needed someone to hold the fort but soon received another blow in the form of Axar Patel, playing straight back into the hands of the bowler Hossain, who got his second wicket of the night.

India were 144 for four when KL Rahul joined Gill in the middle and played his part, doing what he was expected to do with the bat. Shubman with his classic brilliance went on to score 101* (129) while Rahul was outstanding with 41* to take India past the finishing mark in 46.3 overs with six wickets to spare as they registered a dominant victory.
