Shreyas Iyer slammed a match-winning century for India A in the first unofficial ODI of the three-match series against Australia. Hardik Pandya has been dethroned by Pakistan youngster Saim Ayub as the number one ranked T20I all-rounder. In other news, Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of the T20I series against Australia, prompting NZC to name a replacement.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, October 1.

India women’s team to not shake hands with PAK: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian government have reportedly instructed the India Women team to not shake hands with Pakistani players in the ongoing 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, citing the severing geopolitical ties between the two neighboring nations. India Women and Pakistan Women teams are scheduled to face each other in match number six of the tournament on Sunday, October 5 at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Shreyas Iyer slams century for India A before Australia tour

Shreyas Iyer bludgeoned 110 runs from 83 balls with 12 fours and four huge sixes against Australia A in the first unofficial ODI of the three-match series in Kanpur. Leading India A and batting at number three, Iyer’s ton, coupled with a century from Priyansh Arya and quick fifties from Riyan Parag and Ayush Badoni catapulted the Indian total to a monumental 413-6, before Nishant Sindhu scripted India’s 171-run win with a four-wicket haul. Nonetheless, Shreyas Iyer’s century occurred mere days prior to Team India squad selection for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasts 78-ball century vs Australia U19

India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi made the most of his purple patch against Australia Under-19, this time by belting 113 runs in just 86 balls on Day 2 of their four-day match in Brisbane. Suryavanshi brought up his hundred from just 78 balls, and clattered nine fours and eight huge sixes in all in his thunderous knock. His innings, coupled with Vedant Trivedi’s 140 helped India Under-19 mount 428 in 81.3 overs to gain a huge 185-run first innings lead over the hosts before stumps on Day 2.

Saim Ayub dethrones Hardik Pandya despite flop show

Pakistan star Saim Ayub dethroned senior Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya to become the number one ranked T20I all-rounder on the latest ICC rankings. Interestingly, Ayub endured a horrible Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the UAE last month, recording four ducks in the tournament and minting just 37 runs in seven innings at a dismal average of 5.28. The 23-year-old also picked up eight wickets in the competition, while Pandya was ruled out of the final match after sustaining an injury in India’s last Super Four game against Sri Lanka.

Neesham replaces Rachin Ravindra for Australia series

New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of the national squad for the ongoing T20I series against Australia at home. Ravindra suffered a face injury prior to the series opener after colliding with a perimeter boundary hoarding during a training session. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has now recalled seasoned all-rounder Jimmy Neesham as Ravindra’s replacement. Neesham, aged 35, toured Zimbabwe a couple of months ago as part of the New Zealand team for the Zimbabwe T20 tri-series. He recently played for Durham in the 2025 Vitality T20 Blast season.
