Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, September 30.

Hardik Pandya to miss Australia tour: Report

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will likely be ruled out of India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia owing to the quadriceps injury he sustained in the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE. The injury also kept Pandya out of India’s playing XI in the final match of the tournament against arch-rivals Pakistan. Team India is set to play a three-match ODI series and five T20I matches in Australia between October 19 and November 8. The ODI segment of the tour is also expected to mark the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back into international cricket.

Glenn Maxwell ruled out of NZ series, replacement named

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell suffered a fracture on his right wrist during a nets training session in New Zealand ahead of the series-opening first T20I match against the hosts. Maxwell has now been ruled out of the entire three-match Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series, prompting Cricket Australia to name wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe as his injury replacement. The 36-year-old Maxwell recently played a couple of One-Day Cup games for Victoria, after facing South Africa in a three-match T20I series at home.

Babar Azam in, Shaheen returns in PAK squad for SA Tests

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled an 18-player Pakistan squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa at home. Pace maverick Shaheen Afridi was recalled back into the Test side after missing the home series against West Indies earlier this year. Shan Masood is set to continue as Pakistan captain after a disappointing 2023-25 WTC campaign, and he will be accompanied by several star attractions like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, Sajid Khan, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed among others.

Dinesh Karthik replaces Kusal Mendis to make ILT20 debut

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is set to make his International League T20 (ILT20) debut through the upcoming ILT20 2025-26 season. The seasoned cricketer was roped in by the Sharjah Warriorz franchise as a replacement for Sri Lanka stumper Kusal Mendis. Karthik, who has already announced his retirement from international as well as IPL cricket, represented the Paarl Royals franchise in South Africa earlier this year during the SA20 2025 season. Expanding his T20 portfolio, Karthik’s upcoming ILT20 stint will mark his second appearance in a major overseas T20 tournament.

Brian Bennett breaks Shubman Gill’s record with century

Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett blasted 111 runs off just 60 balls against Tanzania in match number nine of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. Notching up his maiden T20I century, the innings also helped Bennett become the youngest cricketer in history to crack hundreds in all three formats of the game, doing so at the age of just 21 years and 324 days. He shattered the previous record set by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad (22 years and 127 days) and Indian Test captain Shubman Gill (23 years and 146 days).
