India Under-19 engulfed hosts Australia to secure the three-match youth ODI series by a 3-0 margin in Brisbane. Middle-order batters Vedant Trivedi and Rahul Kumar anchored the Indian innings for a change after the failure of teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, before bowlers Khilan Patel and Udhav Mohan dismantled the young Australian brigade.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the third youth ODI of the three-match series between Australia Under-19 and India Under-19, as it panned out at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Friday, September 26.

Trivedi and Rahul Kumar take India to 280 upfront

India Under-19 lost star in-form opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi for just 16 to Australia’s Charles Lachmund in the seventh over of the match, i.e., shortly after the departure of struggling skipper Ayush Mhatre courtesy of Ben Gordon. Vihaan Malhotra composed 40 runs off 52 balls to steer India past 100 by forming a 69-run third-wicket stand with Vedant Trivedi. The latter of the two cricketers went on to notch up a sublime 86 from 92 balls with eight regal boundaries.

Trivedi crafted a 99-run counterattacking partnership with fellow half-centurion Rahul Kumar (62 off 84), before both well-set batters were dismissed by Will Byrom and Kasey Barton. Both Byrom (3-45) and Barton (3-39) added two more wickets to their tally to claim tight three-fers during the slog overs, as India reached 280-9 by the completion of their innings.

Khilan Patel, Udhav Mohan run through Australia U19

Young India fast bowler Udhav Mohan shattered Australia Under-19’s top-order with three early wickets, all inside the first seven overs of the run-chase to claim sensational figures of 3-26. The hosts gained some stability with a crafty 50-run partnership between opener Alex Turner (32 off 59) and Tom Hogan (28 off 50) to reach 89 in 20 overs.

However, a breakthrough from Kanishk Chouhan (2-18) and a four-wicket haul from Khilan Patel (4-26) ensured India Under-19 cut through Australia’s lower-half, dismantling the latter from a rebellious 89-3 to 113 all out as the visitors secured a huge 167-win and sealed the three-match youth ODI series 3-0.
