Dhruv Jurel is set to don the wicketkeeping gloves for Team India in the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies at home. The 24-year-old himself confirmed the development a day prior to the series-opener, considering regular stumper Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the series owing to his injury.

Dhruv Jurel also served as India wicketkeeper in the final two matches of the Test series in England a couple of months ago, starting out by provisionally keeping wickets in Manchester before taking over the gloves as India’s primary choice at the Oval in London.

Dhruv Jurel recalls Pant injury, reflects new challenge

In an interview shared by the BCCI on their social media platforms on Wednesday, October 1; Dhruv Jurel confirmed that he will be keeping wickets for Team India in the two-match Test series against the West Indies at home.

Reflecting on the nasty foot injury of Rishabh Pant in England, Jurel described the experience as extremely “painful” for his senior teammate, prompting him to replace him on the field in Manchester and London. The 24-year-old added that he is now looking to make the most of his opportunities as India’s primary wicketkeeping option in the West Indies series. While speaking with the BCCI, Dhruv Jurel said:

“It was very painful. I replaced him in the field. He had injured his leg. Now that I have a chance, I will try to give my best.”

Earlier in September, the BCCI unveiled the entire India squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies. With Rishabh Pant being ruled out, the selection committee named Dhruv Jurel as India’s primary wicketkeeper, and called up uncapped wicketkeeper-batter from Tamil Nadu, Narayan Jagadeesan, as the secondary stumper of the team.

India’s two-match series against West Indies will launch from Thursday, October 2 onwards at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The series will also constitute a part of the 2025-27 WTC cycle.
