The Asia Cup 2025 revolved less around cricket and more around controversial events. Although India and Pakistan produced a thrilling final, the tournament took dramatic twists and turns, with players and administrators from both sides refusing to engage in any kind of interaction with their counterparts. Amid India's diplomatic tussle with the PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi to get the Asia Cup trophy back, the BCCI has asked the Indian Women's team to take a similar stand when they will be up against Pakistan in the Women's World Cup.

No handshake trend likely to continue in IND-W vs PAK-W

The bilateral relationship between India and Pakistan worsened in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, India's bold counterterrorism operation in response to the Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Pahalgam. The geopolitical conflict affected the cricketing ties between the arch-rivals in the Asia Cup 2025, a tournament that witnessed continuous standoffs from both parties on multiple occasions.

Now, a fresh report from the Express Sports has claimed that the BCCI has asked the Indian Women's team to refrain from any kind of interaction and not to participate in the customary handshake with their Pakistani counterparts during the clash between both sides, scheduled for Sunday, October 5.

Harmanpreet Kaur and her troops were given firm instructions regarding the same before the Indian team's departure to Sri Lanka for the highly anticipated face-off.

“The team won’t be shaking hands with the Pakistan team during the World Cup. The team has been informed by the BCCI bosses about this. The Indian board will stand by its players,” BCCI sources were quoted as saying by Express Sports.

Apart from not participating in the customary post-match handshake, the Indian players also refused to collect the trophy from PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the federal minister for the interior of Pakistan.

As a result, the PCB chairman took the trophy with him, forcing the BCCI to raise the issue in the ACC meeting before all members of the Asian Cricket Council. As things stand, Naqvi has asked the Indian team or their representatives to meet him and take the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC headquarters.
