Indian all-rounder and Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur is on the brink of missing the remainder of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. As per reports, the cricketer recently underwent MRI scans after he was forced to pull out of Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Maharashtra in Jaipur earlier in the day on Saturday, January 3.

Shardul Thakur bowled 6.5 overs in the match before he limped off the field in the game. However, the cricketer did come out to bat later in the day, scored just four of five balls as Mumbai lost their Elite Group C match by 128 runs.

Shardul Thakur awaits scan results as Vijay Hazare fate hangs in balance

Out-of-favour Indian cricketer Shardul Thakur recently underwent MRI scans after sustaining an injury during Mumbai’s Elite Group C match of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season against Maharashtra.

As reported by a Revsportz journalist, Thakur might well miss the remainder of the tournament.

While Shardul Thakur has collected 11 wickets in his first four matches of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai, his workload was cut short to just 6.5 wicketless overs against Maharashtra as the speedster battled pain.

It is worth noting that the senior Mumbai all-rounder has had a brush with injuries in the past, some which has even kept him out of international action for Team India at one stage.

Under the leadership of Shardul Thakur, the Mumbai cricket team has secured four wins and just a solitary defeat from five matches to be ranked number two on the Elite Group C points table of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

If Shardul Thakur gets officially ruled out of the season, it remains to be seen which player will take over Mumbai’s captaincy mantle for the remaining fixtures. The Mumbai team will now face Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur on January 6.
