Ahead of the IPL retentions, India’s seam bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur was traded into the Mumbai Indians camp from Lucknow Super Giants, and the veteran cricketer is all but excited to rejoin the five-time defending champions under the umbrella of Rohit Sharma.
Speaking ahead of the mini auction, Shardul Thakur was expressive of Rohit’s flamboyant and positive nature that encouraged and enlightened him during his time in the Indian camp.
Shardul credits Rohit for lively camp atmosphere
In an exclusive talk with the franchise, Shardul was open about his feelings for Rohit Sharma and how he guided him during their days together.
"Abhi aur pata chalega jab sath me baithenge toh. Kaafi masti hogi (It will be fun when we meet again). He made me comfortable, he allowed me to be free with him, and he allowed me to express myself. We became comfortable with each other, and he played a major part in it”, Thakur was quoted as per the franchise’s website.
Shardul, who was part of MI’s dressing room back in 2010, shared how the vibe and positive environment shaped the cricketer in him.
“I was made to play practice games. I bowled with a new ball, so that boosted my morale and confidence to another level, and I was picking wickets. I was lucky enough to experience the dressing room early in my days,” Thakur said.
Thakur thanks MI for career growth
Thakur then heartily thanked the Mumbai Indians camp for helping him grow in his cricketing career, lauding the supportive nature of the team.
“I was already feeling comfortable in front of senior players. Somewhere down the line, whatever the way I was treated during the Mumbai Indians camp, also, that small gesture from the Mumbai Indians helped me a lot to grow in my career,” he added.
Shardul Thakur, who has played 105 IPL games and 25 T20I matches for India, is gearing up for a silver season. The all-rounder showed elite SMAT 2025 form with 12 wickets from 7 matches. He also took a 5-wicket haul against Assam on December 2 and is ready to go all guns blazing after a 13-wicket season in IPL 2025 for LSG.
