Amid serious political and social tensions, BCCI has revealed whether Bangladesh will be allowed to travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is scheduled to go on the floors from February 7.
India-Bangladesh cricket relations are facing serious uncertainty, with the situation beginning to resemble India’s long-frozen ties with Pakistan.
The latest trigger has been the BCCI’s decision to ask IPL franchise KKR to release Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad ahead of the 2026 season, citing recent developments.
BCCI clears the air on Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup
The move comes at a time when political tensions in Bangladesh have escalated, especially following violent incidents targeting minorities.
Amid this chaos, Bangladesh’s participation in ICC tournaments is not expected to be affected.
According to the Indian Express, the officials have clarified that Bangladesh will play the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka as per schedule, since global events are governed by the ICC and hosted on neutral terms.
India is expected to clear the Bangladesh team’s visas in due time, as the tournament is set to begin on February 7.
BCCI puts bilateral series on hold
Unlike the T20 World Cup 2026, the BCCI has taken a firm stand as far as bilateral relations are concerned.
The board has decided to put India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh later this year on hold. The tour, planned for September, was supposed to feature three ODIs and three T20Is.
According to BCCI officials, no final decision has been taken yet, and the board will first seek clearance from the Indian government before confirming whether the tour will go ahead.
The BCCI will formally communicate the government’s stance to the BCB in due course. For now, the series remains in limbo even as Bangladesh confirmed their itinerary.
