Netizens on the social media platform ‘X’ trolled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) management for their bewildering auction strategy. The franchise neither pursued fan favourite KL Rahul nor did they used RTM cards for Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell which left the fans in absolute shock as they called out the management on social media.

Day 1 of IPL 2025 mega auction was held earlier today at Jeddah with 10 franchises competing in intense bidding wars. However, the team to puzzle the fans the most was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

RCB were expected to go all in for local boy KL Rahul but they surprisingly let him go to Delhi Capitals for a steal price of INR 14 crores. Not only that, RCB let Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj walk away despite having as many as 3 RTM cards.

Having a purse of INR 83 crore, RCB shying away from going big for marquee players left the fans confused and frustrated at the same time.

RCB management under fire over dubious auction strategy

As soon as Rahul, Siraj, and Maxwell slipped from their control, fans trolled RCB management on the internet. While some called them brainless, others made memes over their cautious approach to spending money. While RCB reassured the fans on social media, it only added fuel to the fire as the management defended their puzzling decisions.

RCB, having been deprived of an IPL trophy since the inception of IPL in 2008, tested fans’ patience at the IPL 2025 mega auction as the enormous fan base expected a better performance from the think tank.

RCB’s mega auction picks

After securing just Liam Livingstone from the marquee list, RCB bought Phil Salt from the wicket-keeper category for INR 11.50 crore. Besides, they also added Jitesh Sharma for INR 11 crore. From the bowling set, RCB sealed Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.50 crore, whereas uncapped Rasik Dar Salam was picked for INR 6 crore. They still have 17 slots to fill.
