David Warner- (Source:Johns/X.com)
Day 1 of the mega-auction of IPL 2025 was full of surprises and will go down in history. Notably, Rishabh Pant broke the bank and became the highest-paid player in IPL history after LSG bought him for a whopping 27 crores.
Further, Shreyas Iyer too went for 26.75 crores to Punjab Kings. While the marquee players went for 180 crores, a few star players found no interest and went unsold. This article will shed 3light on four capped stars who went unsold on day 1 of the mega auction.
1.David Warner
The most shocking thing that happened on the auction table on day 1 was David Warner going unsold. It is worth noting that Warner's age and the IPL 2024 season was one of the prime factors behind him failing to get a solitary bid.
Warner, who is the leading overseas run-getter in IPL history, scored just 168 runs in IPL 2024 and looked a pale shadow of his earlier versions. Also, he is 38-years-old that plays a huge part.
2. Devdutt Padikkal
Another big name missing from the sold list is Devdutt Padikkal, who is currently representing India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It is worth noting that he scored just 38 runs in seven matches in IPL 2024, and averaged 5, which speaks volumes why he found no bidder at the auction table.
3.Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow, who smashed a century in IPL 2024 against KKR, found no bidders because of his inconsistency. He scored 298 runs in 11 innings that featured the solitary century.
In the other ten games, he failed to provide the start Punjab Kings were looking for him throughout the season.
4.Waqar Salamkheil
Salamkheil, who shone in CPL, was also not scouted properly by the franchises, and they missed out on having a solid option by not spending big bucks.
Nonetheless, all these four players can go under the hammer on day 2, if the teams show interest in them.
