On December 14, India and Australia will lock horns against each other at the Gabba in Brisbane. The pressure is on Team India and skipper Rohit Sharma in particular, who is under the scanner after defeat in the 2nd Test.

It is worth noting that with the defeat in the Adelaide Test, Rohit has now suffered defeats in four straight losses in Test cricket as captain. He led the Indian team that suffered a rare whitewash at home against New Zealand. India were defeated 3-0.

The WTC runners-up won the first Test against Australia, but Jasprit Bumrah led the side in Rohit's absence, who was in India because of the birth of his child. His return as the captain didn't go well as India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the 2nd Test.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Holds Record For Most Consecutive Defeats In Tests

Now with four straight losses as an India captain, Rohit stands at the brink of an embarrassing record. He fears equalling Sachin's record of joint-second most defeats for India in Tests as a captain. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi holds the record for most consecutive losses as India captain (6). Here is the complete list.

  • Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi - 6
  • Sachin Tendulkar - 5
  • Datta Gaekwad - 5
  • MS Dhoni - 4
  • Virat Kohli -4
  • Rohit Sharma - 4

Notably, Sachin suffered five straight defeats when he led the side in 1999. He lost 0-3 against Australia away from home and then lost 0-2 against South Africa at home. Rohit needs to win the third Test to get off this embarrassing list and also strengthen India's chances to qualify for the WTC final.
