Former South African batter Daryll Cullinan harshly criticised Rohit Sharma’s falling fitness standards. In his interview with Inside Sports, the ex-batter called the Indian captain overweight, flat track bully and deemed him unfit for lengthy Test matches, especially in overseas conditions.

Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI and Test format captain, has come under scrutiny since the men in blue lost the three-game Test series against New Zealand at home. To add to the pressure, India lost the second Test against Australia at Adelaide under his leadership.

Besides failing as a captain, Rohit Sharma’s personal stats as specialist opening batter has also taken a hit. His average plummeted to below 30 during the home series and in Adelaide, he scored a total of nine runs.

Meanwhile, former South Africa cricketer Daryll Cullinan analysed Rohit’s fitness and recent form to tender harsh criticism. Talking to InsideSport, Cullinan opined that compared to Virat Kohli, the Indian captain looks overweight. He added that Rohit Sharma is unfit to endure five long days of Test cricket. Further analysing the stats, the ex-cricketer deemed Rohit a flat track bully.

Not only that, the Protea said that Rohit Sharma’s problems against short balls are a curse for India and that the captain should reclaim his spot as an opener because that is where he belongs.

Rohit Sharma to snatch his opening role from KL Rahul

With the five-game Test series against Australia levelled 1-1, India arrived in Gabba for the third Test scheduled for December 14. According to the team’s body language during the net session, Rohit is likely to open in the third Test, thus replacing KL Rahul. The captain looked uncomfortable in the middle order during the pink ball Test, and with Rahul also failing to score runs, the move is highly likely. Moreover, Harshit Rana’s place is also under the scanner as Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Akash Deep were seen practicing with the new ball.
