Team India’s young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal found himself in a bit of a sticky wicket on Wednesday morning. While the rest of the Indian squad boarded the team bus and made their way to the Adelaide airport, Jaiswal was still inside the team hotel, leaving his teammates waiting.

And when captain Rohit Sharma’s patience ran out, the bus took off without the Mumbai batter. Dressed in his travel gear, Jaiswal emerged five minutes after the team bus had departed.

With a sheepish smile, he hopped into a car alongside the team’s security officer and made his way to the airport. It’s not every day that you see one of the rising stars of Indian cricket chasing the bus instead of chasing runs.

Jaiswal’s form on this tour has been a tale of two Tests. In the series opener at Perth, he was the toast of the town, smashing a scintillating 161 in the second innings. The Aussies had no answer to his flamboyant stroke play. India romped to a mammoth 295-run victory, with Jaiswal rightfully at the heart of it.

But cricket is a great leveller, and Adelaide reminded him of that. A golden duck in the first innings and a scratchy 24 in the second meant the young southpaw couldn’t replicate his magic. To further compound the misery, India faced a humiliating 10-wicket defeat as the Aussies clawed back into the series in some style .

All Eyes on the Gabba

With the scoreline now even at 1-1, the upcoming AUS vs IND 3rd Test at Brisbane’s Gabba promises to be an exciting clash. India has fond memories of the Gabba. Who can forget their heroics in 2021, when a depleted Indian side breached Australia’s fortress to script a historic win?

Jaiswal wasn’t a part of that squad, but the youngster would surely want to put his name into Gabba’s history this time around.

As the team gears up for the third Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal will have his work cut out. The Gabba pitch, known for its pace and bounce, will test his technique. But if there’s one thing we know about the lad from Mumbai, it’s that he thrives on challenges.

So, while the road to the airport might have been bumpy, Jaiswal has a chance to smooth things over with the bat. A big knock by Jaiswal at the Gabba could swing the series in India’s favour.
