On September 19, India will lock horns against Bangladesh for the first of two Test match series at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the crucial series, Indian players are sweating hard in the nets and also eyeing personal milestones.
It is also a special occasion for Rishabh Pant, who is returning to Test set-up after a gap of nearly two years. Pant's last Test for India also came against Bangladesh in December 2022. However, the southpaw was involved in a fatal car crash that ruled him out of action for more than a year.
Pant Eyes MS Dhoni's Special Feat
Pant, who is eyeing a Test return, has a chance to script a milestone and enter the history books in the upcoming series. Pant currently has five Test centuries to his name. He just needs two more tons to surpass MS Dhoni's tally of six centuries to have the most hundreds by an Indian wicket-keeper in Test cricket.
Dhoni has scored six Test centuries in 90 Test games, while Pant has five in just 33 matches for India. For the upcoming tour, India have named three keepers in the squad including Pant. He faces competition from Dhruv Jurel and KL Rahul, but reports suggest that he is ahead in the pecking order because of his display in the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Pant's Performance In Duleep Trophy
Pant impressed the selectors with his fitness in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Playing for India B, with the bat, Pant scored 61 (47) and also shone with the gloves. He took seven catches in the match, which includes five in the second innings.
Pant's heroics helped India B register a comfortable 76 runs in the first round of the Duleep Trophy.
