Test cricket returns to Indian shores after 6-long months, with a confident Indian side taking on a spirited Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The last time India played a Test series at home, they thrashed England 4-1, and will be the favourites heading into the series.

The Indian team is being led by a supreme leader in Rohit Sharma, and under his captaincy, Team India have strengthened their position in the WTC points table, sitting at the top of the pile. However, Rohit knows the stern challenge which the Bangladesh team possesses.

Rohit Sharma reveals message given to KL Rahul

The Tigers were superb in their last series against Pakistan, and were at their imperial best, thrashing the Asian giants 2-0, and making a big statement ahead of the India tour.

The Indian squad is boasted with skilled players across positions, and one of them is KL Rahul. The talented batter's career has been marred with injuries, and despite performing well in Tests since 2021, KL Rahul has never got a consistent run in this format due to his injury issues.

However, ahead of the first Test, skipper Rohit Sharma attended the press conference and backed KL Rahul to perform against Bangladesh. He mentioned that KL is a quality batter and he will play both the Tests, as the team management is backing him to give his best.

"There are handful of people in world cricket who had a smooth ride. Handful of cricketers had no issues all their life, it was all good. Everyone has an up and down career. Best thing to do is to understand yourself, expectations from yourself and what’s needed for the team. The kind of quality KL Rahul has, everybody knows. The message to him from our side was we want him to play all the game and bring the best out of him."

"It’s important to give him a clear message that what we need from him. He was done well since comeback – scored hundred against South Africa. Unfortunately got injured after Hyderabad, didn’t play afterwards. I hope he continues from where he left in Hyderabad. I don’t see any reason why he can’t flourish in Test cricket."

KL Rahul's career hampered by recurring injuries

Despite being a regular member of the Indian Test setup, KL Rahul has never got a consistent run of games, and the major issue is because of his repeated injuries. He was ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a thigh injury, but made a successful return in the Asia Cup that year.

He even scored a stunning century against South Africa at Centurion, but suffered from a quad injury which ruled him out of the Vizag Test against England. Subsequently, he missed the second and third Test as well, and with KL Rahul out, the likes of Sarfaraz Khan cemented his place with monumental performances against England.
