Things have gone downhill for Babar Azam in the last one-year. His last match-winning knock for Pakistan came during the Asia Cup 2023 match against Nepal, and since then, the white-ball captain has failed to deliver across formats.

After a disastrous World Cup campaign in India, Babar's Test captaincy was snatched by PCB, and now there have been rumours that his white-ball captaincy is also under threat. Recently, he led Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, and under his leadership, the team crashed out in the group stage itself.

Rashid Latif makes stunning remarks on Babar's woeful form

Moreover, he has been woefully out of form in the Test format as well. The former skipper could just accumulate 64 runs in four innings Vs Bangladesh, as the Pakistan side were whitewashed 2-0. Meanwhile, he also slipped to the 12th position in the latest ICC rankings, a testimony to his poor form.

While some call Babar's poor form a technical issue, former Pakistan skipper, Rashid Latif has come up with a shocking statement, stating it is more of a mental block, and the pressure of captaincy is taking a toll on his batting.

"Mental issues zyada lagta hai (There seem to be more mental issues). We need to remember that he was removed forcefully as captain," Latif pointed out, referring to the transition in leadership where Babar was stripped of captaincy duties in certain formats of the game. The manner of his removal, according to Latif, could have had a profound impact on the 29-year-old batter’s mental health, making it difficult for him to cope with the high pressure that comes with captaining Pakistan.

"When the mind is not functioning correctly, it affects the nerves as well. You try to play hard on every ball," Latif added.

Babar vows to find his lost form in Pakistan's Champions Cup

After a disastrous Bangladesh series, Babar is currently playing in Pakistan's ODI Champions Cup, and has looked in solid touch. He recently smacked Shahnawaz Dahani for five boundaries in a row and has made a solid statement thus far.

The tournament provides a perfect opportunity for the star batter to regain his lost touch on a batting paradise. With the upcoming Test series against England just around the corner, Babar will look to get some runs under his belt before the series begins.
