In a shocking turn of events, Bengaluru's iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium won't be staging any of the matches in the next Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. This decision comes just weeks before the tournament begins on September 30. According to a report from Cricbuzz, Thiruvananthapuram is now the front-runner to replace Bengaluru as a venue for the marquee event.

Bengaluru was originally set to host some of the biggest fixtures, including the opening match, a semi-final, and three other group games, such as India vs Sri Lanka, England vs South Africa, and India vs Bangladesh. However, now Cricbuzz has stated that final decision has been made on August 11 and Bengaluru will not host any matches in the Women's World Cup 2025.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium Deemed Unsafe For International Fixtures

Earlier, India Today reported that the government of Karnataka has refused permission to stage Women's World Cup matches on its soil based on legitimate safety concerns.

The issues have reportedly arisen from the Justice Cunha committee report, which looked into the  unfortunate stampede that occurred after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL 2025 title.

The celebration at Chinnaswamy turned into chaos, leaving 11 people dead and several others injured. The committee concluded that the stadium’s “design and structure” make it inherently unsafe for large gatherings and that hosting mass events in the future would pose an unacceptable risk to public safety.

KSCA officials reportedly proposed holding the World Cup matches without spectators to avoid crowd trouble, but the government refused. Earlier, the same safety concerns forced the Maharaja Trophy matches to be moved from Bengaluru to Mysuru

RCB To Lose Its Home In IPL 2026?

That being said, this decision has huge consequences beyond the Women’s World Cup. Since Chinnaswamy is the only international cricket stadium in Karnataka, it also throws Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 campaign into uncertainty. The franchise may now have to play its “home” games in another city, a massive blow for loyal RCB fans who have turned Chinnaswamy into a fortress over the years.
