The Asia Cup 2025 tournament is set to commence next month, and all the teams have yet to reveal their final squad for the marquee event. While India's team is likely to be announced on August 19 or 20, tentative dates have been revealed for the Pakistan squad announcement for the mega tournament.
Moreover, several major changes are expected as Pakistan aims to win the Asia Cup event for the first time since the 2012 edition. As per Cricket Pakistan, the selectors are expected to announce the probable squad next week, the same timeframe as the India side. However, a final decision will be made once the ODI team is back from the West Indies, with captain Salman Ali Agha kept in the loop.
The final squad will train in Lahore to prepare for the marquee event, and as per reports, the Pakistan squad, which will be announced for the tri-series, will be the same for the Asia Cup.
Major shakeup expected in Pakistan squad
Reportedly, star all-rounder Shadab Khan is set to be snubbed from the team and won't be considered for the Asian tournament. Since 2024, his all-round inputs have dropped down massively, and with other all-rounders emerging, Pakistan have moved on from Shadab.
Fakhar Zaman likely to be fit for Asia Cup
As per reports, Fakhar Zaman, who is nursing a hamstring injury, is likely to be fit for the event. He will report to the National Cricket Academy, and people closely associated with him feel that the injury is not serious, and won't hamper his selection chances.
Babar Azam back in the T20I side?
Reportedly, Pakistan is considering bringing Babar Azam back in the T20I side for the Asia Cup. He last played a T20I game in December 2024, and since then, the selectors have dropped him due to his strike rate issue. The Men in Green needs experience in the squad, and hence, Babar could be recalled.
