The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their maiden IPL title in the 2025 edition, and they had to wait for 18 years to get their hands on the coveted trophy. The team played a brilliant brand of cricket throughout the tournament and were the deserving champions.

However, the joy of winning the IPL title was cut short as their championship celebration turned into chaos. RCB was set to host their victory celebration inside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, but tragedy occurred as a stampede situation took place, and at-least 11 people were killed.

This led to mass protests against the franchise, and as per reports, the Chinnaswamy Stadium is unlikely to host any games in the IPL 2026 season. While many feel this is a disaster for the defending champions, there is a different side to it as well, and the ban imposed could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for them.

(RCB record at Chinnaswamy)

RCB has played 98 games at this venue, and have won 46, and lost the same number of games, with 6 matches ending in no result. The Chinnaswamy Stadium has traditionally been a batting friendly venue, and while RCB have had some of the best hitters in their side, they have often lacked quality bowlers to defend totals. This has been the main reason for their overall poor record at their home ground.

The away domination last season

In the 2025 edition, RCB became the first team in IPL history to win all their away matches in the league. They didn't lose a single match, and they dominated the opposition. The same cannot be said about their home record in 2025, as they won 2 and lost 3.

Hence, a move away from Chinnaswamy could be a blessing for the defending champions. They had a stellar away record last season, and move away from their traditional home ground, could allow them to continue that domination, without thinking about how they would fare at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
