India’s star all-rounder Deepti Sharma is within touching distance of becoming the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler, after moving up to joint-second in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings.
ICC recently revised its Women’s T20I player rankings, with all-rounder Deepti noticing big gains, which comes as a positive sign for the Indian camp.
Deepti Sharma Inches Away From No.1 T20I Bowler Ranking
In the latest ICC Women’s T20I bowler rankings, Deepti Sharma has climbed to No.2 with a 732 rating. Deepti’s rise comes following Pakistan’s recent 2-1 series loss to Ireland Women, which saw former No.1 Sadiq Iqbal slip down the rankings.
Iqbal, who managed only three wickets in the series, lost crucial rating points, allowing Australia’s Annabel Sutherland to claim the top spot for the first time in her career. Sutherland, despite not playing an international match in the past week, retained her rating of 736 to leapfrog into first place.

That being said, Deepti now shares second position with Iqbal and has her eyes firmly set on that No.1 ranking. But if the Indian all-rounder continues her current form, cricket fans may soon witness a historic moment, Deepti Sharma becoming the first Indian woman in years to hold the No.1 T20I bowling ranking.
Deepti To Manage Workload Ahead Of World Cup
In a big yet calculative step, Deepti Sharma has withdrawn from the 2025 Women’s Hundred to manage her workload, just a year after hitting the winning six for London Spirit in the final.
With India’s home 50-over World Cup later this year, Deepti opted out of her £36,000 contract to take a short break. Australian Charli Knott replaced her, leaving no Indian players in the tournament.
