RCB ensured a top two finish for themselves after blanking LSG in Lucknow in the final league match of the IPL 2025 season. Virat Kohli shattered a couple of huge batting milestones in the process. In other news, Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal has been crowned as the number one T20I women’s bowler in the updated ICC rankings.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, May 27.

RCB Secure Top Two Finish In Record Chase Vs LSG

RCB pulled off a record chase against LSG in match 70 of the IPL 2025 season in Lucknow, and finished the league stage at number two on the points table before the playoffs. LSG batted first and mounted 227-3 from 20 overs, riding high on Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 118* from 61 balls and Mitchell Marsh’s sizzling 37-ball 67. In response, Virat Kohli punched out a majestic 30-ball 54, before Mayank Agarwal (41* off 23) shared a match-defining 107*-run partnership with interim skipper Jitesh Sharma.

Jitesh himself top-scored in the chase by cracking 85* runs from just 33 balls with eight fours and six sixes as RCB romped home with more than an over to spare.

Virat Kohli Beats Warner, Scales Huge Batting Milestone

Virat Kohli notched up an elegant 54 from 30 balls against LSG bowlers at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. In doing so, the legendary Indian cricketer extended his run-tally for the RCB franchise past the 9,000-run mark. The 36-year-old has now become the first player in the history of T20s to aggregate 9,000 or more runs for a single team, finding himself nearly 3,000 runs ahead of second-placed Rohit Sharma (for Mumbai Indians). At the moment, Virat Kohli’s RCB tally stands at 9,030 runs from 271 innings across IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20.

He also went past David Warner to record the highest number of half-centuries in the history of the IPL, tonking his 63rd fifty.

T Dilip Handed One-Year Contract As Fielding Coach

T Dilip has been re-appointed as Team India’s fielding coach for another year. While Dilip’s contract recently came to a conclusion, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to retain him since they failed to find his successor. The news was confirmed by a source close to the Indian Express, who mentioned that the board was aiming to rope in an international candidate but failed to find anyone.

It is worth noting that with T Dilip at the helm, Team India won the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies last year.

Jitesh Sharma Confirms Hazlewood’s Return For Playoffs

RCB interim skipper Jitesh Sharma has confirmed that Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will be making his return to the franchise for the IPL 2025 playoffs. It is worth noting that Hazlewood flew back home in Australia during IPL’s 10-day long suspension to nurse his shoulder injury. The speedster has played 10 matches for the RCB franchise so far this season, picking up 18 wickets in the process at an impressive bowling average of 17.27.

Sadia Iqbal Outshines Deepti Sharma To Become No. 1 Bowler

Pakistan left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal has become the new number one ranked bowler on the ICC charts in women’s T20I rankings. The 29-year-old, coupled with India’s Deepti Sharma and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland all claimed a rung each to take the top three slots on the ICC charts. England’s Sophie Ecclestone, however, lost her throne to slip to the fourth spot on the updated rankings.
