Punjab Kings routed Mumbai Indians in match 69 of the IPL 2025 season in Jaipur. Gujarat’s domestic veteran Priyank Panchal has announced his retirement from first-class cricket. In other news, senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is primed for a comeback into the Punjab Kings set up for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, May 26.

PBKS Secure Top Two Finish By Beating MI

Punjab Kings outclassed Mumbai Indians by seven wickets and seven balls to spare in match 69 of the IPL 2025 season in Jaipur. The outcome also ensured a top two finish for the Shreyas Iyer-led franchise. Fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen and Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two wickets each to restrict Mumbai Indians to 184-7 from 20 overs upfront.

Chasing 185, Josh Inglis smeared 73 runs off 42 balls while firebrand opener Priyansh Arya made 62 from 35 deliveries to headline Punjab Kings’ pursuit.

Suryakumar Yadav Shatters Batting Records

Mumbai Indians veteran Suryakumar Yadav slapped 57 runs from just 39 balls against Punjab Kings in Jaipur. Yadav’s latest batting masterclass extended his IPL 2025 tally to 640 runs from 14 innings, thus taking him past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 618 runs from 2010 to aggregate most runs by any Mumbai Indians batter in a single IPL edition.

Moreover, Suryakumar also listed his 14th successive score of 25 or more runs in T20 cricket, soaring past South Africa’s Temba Bavuma (13 successive scores in 2019-20) for the all-time T20 record.

Gujarat Veteran Priyank Panchal Retires From First-Class Cricket

Gujarat batting veteran Priyank Panchal has announced his retirement from first-class cricket. The 35-year-old, with an experience of 127 first-class caps, aggregated 8,856 runs at a splendid average of 45.18, plundering 29 tons and 34 fifties in the process. Panchal played 99 of those matches for the Gujarat cricket team to tally nearly 7,000 runs. He played a crucial role in Gujarat’s Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012-13, 2013-14) triumphs.

It is worth noting that the Indian domestic star nearly made his international debut in 2021 when he was included in Team India squad as a replacement for Rohit Sharma.

Yuzvendra Chahal Likely To Be Fit For IPL 2025 Playoffs

Punjab Kings leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will likely regain his fitness in time for the IPL 2025 playoffs. The 34-year-old missed the final two league games for the Punjab Kings franchise owing to a finger injury. In a recent development, a PTI journalist claimed that Chahal will be expected to be available for the knockout fixtures. Moreover, the Punjab Kings management did not include the spinner in their league matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians in a bid to avoid risking his injury further.
