In what comes as fascinating news is that India's fielding coach, T. Dilip has been reappointed to his position for the upcoming year. Additionally, Shubman Gill is likely to miss the warm-up game in England due to IPL 2025.
T. Dilip To Continue As India's Fielding Coach
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s search for a new fielding coach for the senior men's Indian side has ended, as they have decided to retain T. Dilip for another year, since the apex body failed to find his successor.
The contract will begin with India's five-match Test tour against England, starting on the 20th of June. The news was confirmed by a source to the Indian Express who mentioned that the BCCI was looking for an international candidate but failed to find anyone, and hence, decided to reappoint Dilip for that particular role.
“We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team for England. His contract so far is for one year,” said the source.
For the unversed, Dilip has been a prominent part of the Indian side for a better part of this decade. He has been at the forefront since the end of 2021 after being part of India's T20 World Cup side alongside Rahul Dravid.
Whereas, Dravid and other members left after the T20 World Cup last year, but Dilip was given an extension until March 2025, after which his contract has been extended.
Dilip will continue to work alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
Also, Dilip became an instant success after videos of him handing out medals in the dressing room after India's World Cup matches became quite viral, where he would hand over the medals to players for their fielding efforts in the game.
He has been credited for helping a lot of young players improve their fielding, especially slip catching, which was mentioned by now-retired Ravichandran Ashwin, as he talked about Dilip's ability to transform India into a world-class fielding side.
There has also been news that India's assistant fielding coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, will fly alongside the India A side to prepare them for the upcoming matches against the England Lions, where Doeschate will play a crucial role alongside Hrishikesh Kanitkar for the upcoming India A tour of England.
Shubman Gill Likely To Be Rested For Warmup Match
Another interesting piece of news coming is that India's newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill, will be missing out on the second warmup game for which he was selected, to be played in Northampton from the 6th of June, but will now not be a part of the match after his IPL side, Gujarat Titans, qualified for the playoffs.
The IPL final is due on June 3rd, and if GT qualifies for the final, he would have had to reach England in two days, which would have been tougher on the Indian captain, as it is a 46-day-long tour.
