Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a remarkable feat as he equalled Virat Kohli's record for the most Player of the Match awards in Test cricket for India, following India's 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test between the two teams in Chennai. Interestingly, this victory made India the leader of the WTC.
Ashwin was nothing short of phenomenal as he first struck a century, scoring 113 runs in the first innings and then followed it up with a six-wicket haul in the second when Bangladesh, chasing an intimidating target of 515, lost their way and were eventually bowled out for 234 runs.
It was a multifaceted contribution not only from Ashwin to win his tenth Player of the Match award but also reflected his immeasurable importance to the team in its triumph during the Test.
Ashwin Scripts History
Ashwin has certainly secured a place in the history books for one thing as he joins the very elite list of players; headlined by the greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Anil Kumble, besides others. There are 14 awards to Tendulkar's name, while Dravid has 11, Ashwin, Kohli, Jadeja, and Kumble each share ten, now.
Not just Ashwin, Rishabh Pant joins MS Dhoni's record
That proved to be a good comeback match for Rishabh Pant, who scored his sixth Test hundred with a knock of 109 runs and he matched MS Dhoni's special record. Especially because he hadn't played a Test since he was involved in a serious car accident in December 2022.
