In a setback for Quetta Gladiators' campaign in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, Sherfane Rutherford, the Windies batter, has bid adieu to the squad due to family reasons.

The 25-year-old left-hander's departure comes at a crucial juncture, leaving a void in the team's batting lineup. Rutherford's absence was notably felt in Quetta's recent match against Peshawar Zalmi, where his explosive batting could have made a significant difference.

During his stint in PSL 2024, Rutherford showcased his batting prowess, accumulating 151 runs in six innings at an impressive strike rate of 148.03.

His standout performance came in a thrilling encounter against Karachi Kings, where he played a vital role in Quetta's victory, smashing a rapid 58 off just 31 balls, including six sixes and a boundary. Alongside Akeal Hosein, Rutherford rescued Quetta from a precarious position, demonstrating his match-winning capabilities.

Despite Rutherford's departure, there remains a glimmer of hope for Quetta Gladiators fans, as sources suggest the possibility of his return if the team qualifies for the playoffs. However, his absence poses a challenge for the team management to find suitable replacements and maintain their momentum in the tournament.

Currently, Quetta Gladiators stand at the fourth position in the PSL 2024 points table, having secured four wins in eight games. With crucial matches ahead against Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans, Quetta faces the task of securing at least one more victory to secure their spot in the playoffs.
