In a mesmerising display of fast bowling, New Zealand's fast bowler Matt Henry showcased his performance for the ages in the ongoing second Test against Australia at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

The 32-year-old right-arm fast-medium bowler delivered a stellar performance, securing seven crucial wickets for just 67 runs in the first innings, ensuring Australia didn't amass an insurmountable lead.

Henry's exceptional spell not only stopped Australia's batting lineup but also etched his name in the books of New Zealand cricket history. His figures of 7/67 are now the best-ever by a Kiwi bowler against Australia in home Tests, surpassing the 17-year-old record held by Daniel Vettori.

Additionally, Henry has achieved a remarkable feat by bowling the second-best performance of any New Zealand bowler against Australia in red-ball cricket. Sir Richard Hadlee's 9/52 remains the best bowling figure by a New Zealander against Australia in Brisbane in 1985.

The impactful performance saw Henry dismiss key Australian batters including Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh, along with the lower order comprising Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc.

Despite Australia holding a 94-run lead in the first innings, Henry's spell ensured that the hosts remained competitive, keeping hopes alive for a potential comeback in both the Test match and the series.

This marks Henry's second 7-wicket haul in Test cricket, with his first occurring against South Africa back in February 2022, also at Christchurch itself.

Furthermore, Henry's stellar performance brings him within touching distance of a significant milestone in his Test cricket career. With just seven wickets away, he stands on the verge of joining the prestigious 100-wicket club, a feat achieved by only a select few New Zealand bowlers in history.
