Former India and RCB player, Dinesh Karthik snubbed Jasprit Bumrah while naming the future India captain after Rohit Sharma's retirement. Instead, he picked two young guns for the same post - Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill.

Rohit Sharma retired from T20I cricket after winning the World Cup final against South Africa. Following which, Team India appointed Suryakumar Yadav as their new T20I captain, and neglected Hardik Pandya, who was the original choice for the T20I captaincy post.

However, the team management are also looking at the future, and believe that an all-format captain, is the best way to go forward, rather than split captaincy. Hence, Dinesh Karthik, gave his opinion on the future of India cricket and picked up two youngsters for this all-important responsibility.

“Two players come straight into my mind who are young, who have the potential, and definitely can lead India in all the formats shortly. One Rishabh Pant, two Shubman Gill. Both of them are captains of IPL teams and have captained India. I do think in time, they have the chance to become the all-format captain for India as well,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz show.

Pant, Gill ready for upcoming Bangladesh series

Pant and Gill, both feature in the India squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The series will be a part of the WTC cycle, as India look to strengthen their position at the top of the WTC points table.

Both the youngsters are likely to be included in the playing XI for the first Test, with Gill occupying the number 3 spot, and Pant playing as the first choice wicket-keeper. This will be Pant's first Test series after his horrifying accident, which took place in December 2022.

There is no vice-captain announced for the Bangladesh series, but speculations have risen that Gill could be touted as the future after Rohit, and he could be made the vice-captain of the Test team.
