In a significant development, the BCCI announced Team India's T20I squad for the Sri Lanka tour. Suryakumar Yadav is set to lead the Men in Blue, and Shubman Gill will serve as vice-captain for the three-match T20I series, which commences on July 27.

Suryakumar Yadav, popularly known as SKY, brings limited but successful captaincy experience to the table. He has captained in only one T20 league match, which he won. Additionally, he has led the Mumbai team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, securing 10 victories out of 16 matches.

Not Hardik, Shubman Gill nurtured as future skip

In an unexpected move, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee opted for Suryakumar Yadav over the anticipated choice, Hardik Pandya. Suryakumar's promotion highlights his stature as India’s premier T20I batter. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who has demonstrated leadership qualities by leading a young Indian team to a 4-1 series victory in Zimbabwe and currently captains the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, is being nurtured as a future skipper.
