In a significant move, the BCCI will likely appoint Shubman Gill as India's vice-captain in Test cricket. The stylish batter from Punjab recently succeeded Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain of the national side in white-ball formats.

While Suryakumar Yadav has been named India's new T20I skipper, Rohit Sharma continues to lead the ODI and Test teams for the time being.

Meanwhile, a renowned journalist has claimed that Gill might also be roped in as India's vice-captain for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Notably, ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah currently serves as India's vice captain in Tests.

In a video doing rounds on social media, the journalist revealed his conversation with the Indian batter, eventually disclosing the massive update.

After leading India to a clinical 4-1 series win in the Zimbabwe T20Is, Gill earned the management's trust as a capable leader.

Even the head of the BCCI selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, praised him for his leadership qualities at the recently held press conference.

Furthermore, Gill's fitness and ability to perform in all three formats have strengthened the case for his inclusion in India's Test leadership group. This is precisely why he pipped Hardik Pandya in the vice-captaincy race in ODIs and T20Is.

Having said that, the selectors will closely monitor his batting performance, as a lean patch might jeopardise his potential captaincy stint.
