Bangladesh cricket board announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming 3-game ODI series against Afghanistan. Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das were among the notable omissions, whereas Najmul Shanto will captain the side amid rumours of resignation.

Bangladesh cricket team is set to tour UAE for a three-game ODI series against Afghanistan later this month. The three games will go on floors on November 6,9 and 11 at the common venue of Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Several rumours and speculations hit the internet with respect to the squad. Shakib Al Hasan, veteran Bangladeshi all-rounder, was doubtful for the series after his recent rift with the board. It all began when he was denied a farewell Test at home due to security concerns and Shakib’s supporters hit the streets with a protest which only strained their relationship.

Shanto to lead Bangladesh in ODI series vs Afghanistan

Meanwhile, BCB released a 15-member squad for the Afghanistan ODI series earlier today and unsurprisingly, Shakib Al Hasan failed to find a spot. Interestingly, Litton Das was also ignored due to health reasons. He is yet to recover from the viral fever that led to his exclusion from the second Test against South Africa.

Additionally, Shanto has been retained as captain amid reports of his resignation. Shanto was reportedly mulling stepping down from his leadership duties across all formats. But that decision is held back for now.

Nahid Rana, who impressed in his short Test career so far, will transition into the ODI setup with this series. Mehidy Hasan has been named vice captain with seniors Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also included in the final list.

As far as Afghanistan are concerned, Sediqullah Atal and leg spinner Noor Ahmad have been added to the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Both these players will replace the injured Ibrahim Zadran and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. With that, Afghanistan will carry 19 players for the series.
