In a significant development around Bangladesh cricket, there are reports that Najmul Shanto has offered his resignation as Bangladesh captain to BCB and does not want to captain the side after the conclusion of the South Africa series.

Bangladesh are currently playing against South Africa in a two-match Test series, and according to a report from Cricbuzz, Shanto will step down as Bangladesh's captain after the second Test.

Najmul Shanto Offers Resignation As Captain To BCB

"Yes, he informed us that he is not ready to lead the side after the South Africa series," a top BCB official confirmed the development to Cricbuzz.

Further, Najmul also talked to Cricbuzz and admitted that he has offered to step down from the role and is awaiting BCB's decision. He said:

"Let's see what happens (as far as leading Bangladesh is concerned) because I am still waiting to hear it from the president (BCB)."

Najmul Shanto Awaits BCB's Decision

At present, Najmul is awaiting an approval from BCB over his decision to step down as Bangladesh captain. However, if the board approves his decision, then Shanto will not lead Bangladesh in the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan.

The report further mentioned that Shanto wanted to quit captaincy from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024 debacle, but later changed his mind following the embarrassment against India in the recently concluded Test series and is now looking to leave captaincy from all formats.

Shanto's high as Bangladesh captain came against Pakistan when his side beat the Shan Masood-led side 2-0. However, they faced the same fate against India in India and lost 0-2.
