The number of changes happening at the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) will continue to increase following the dissolution of the Awami League government nearly three months ago. As a result, BCB has formed a constitution amendment committee after being directed by the NSC (National Sports Council) to do so.
BCB director Nazmul Abedin has been handed with an additional responsibility of leading the committee as its convener. The move will see the committee assessing the current constitution, observing areas to improve and proposing changes subsequently.
"An acceptable [to all] and inclusive constitution plays a vital role to bring good governance in the sports arena, which has been seen over the time. Besides, a constitution is a sacred deposit to the respective organizations. The constitution also plays a vital role to confirm accountability and responsibility. NSC is determined to create such an ideal environment and firmly believes that BCB will stay with NSC," read a part of one of the two NSC’s letters sent to the BCB, as reported by Cricbuzz.
NSC, who doesn’t usually interfere in BCB-related matters, felt it was the right time to ensure that the board functions as per modern-day requirements. The same isn’t surprising taking into consideration all that has happened with the BCB since the Nazmul Hasan-led administration was dethroned after a decade-long tenure.
More importantly, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, during its 15th Board of Directors meeting, also removed as many as 11 directors who were involved with the Awami League in one way or the other.
Apart from Hasan and BPL chairman Sheikh Sohel, the list also comprises names such as Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed (Titu), Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza and Nazib Ahmed. Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud and Enayet Hossain Siraj, on the contrary, have resigned.
While one director had passed away earlier this year, 10 out of a total of 25 directors remain now at BCB. For the unversed, according to clause 15.2 of the Constitution of the BCB, a director is terminated/vacated for not attending three consecutive meetings.
