On Wednesday, August 20, the ICC updated their weekly ranking charts. Keshav Maharaj topped the bowling charts, but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stole the limelight after the India veterans suddenly disappeared from the charts.

Notably, Rohit and Virat, who were ranked 2nd and 4th, respectively, in last week's rankings, were removed from the list and were nowhere to be seen in the list of top 100 ODI batters.

The internet was sent into a frenzy following the blunder, as the fans speculated that the two veterans would soon announce their ODI retirement as well. The internet was buzzing with retirement trend which also forced the ICC too act on the seniors' absence from rankings.

Technical Glitch Affects Rohit, Virat's Ranking

In the latest events, the fans can be relieved because it was just a technical glitch. Notably, Wisden remarked that they spoke to the ICC, who confirmed to them that it was nothing more than a glitch.

Wisden also claimed that the website has rectified the mistake and at the time of writing this article, the rankings have been rectified with Rohit and Kohli back in the top 100 players list.

Technical Glitch Affects Retired Cricketers

Notably, Rohit will retain his no.2 rank, while Virat will be placed fourth on the rankings. "Several issues in this week’s rankings are currently being investigated," remarked ICC, speaking to Wisden.

Not just Virat and Rohit, but there were other glitches as well. Notably, several retired cricketers like Faf du Plessis too returned to the ICC rankings. Steve Tikolo, Alex Obanda, Thomas Odoyo, Anshy Rath are a few other examples of ICC's error. However, in the latest events, they too have disappeared from the list.
