Indian cricket fans were stunned on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli went missing from the most recent ICC ODI rankings. The two senior batters, who have been among India’s most consistent performers in the format, were missing from the updated list.

Just last week, Rohit Sharma was ranked No. 2 in ODIs, while Virat Kohli was placed at No. 4 with 736 points. The change in the new table has raised eyebrows, as both players are still active in the ODI format. 

Fans Fear Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma’s Retirement

According to reports, the update seems to be the result of a technical glitch in the ICC’s system, rather than an official removal. Some also speculate that since Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not played an ODI since March this year, the inactivity could have prompted the ICC to exclude them.

Meanwhile, the mysterious disappearance from the ICC ODI rankings has left Indian fans baffled. Many fear the duo, who already quit the Test and T20I formats, could announce retirement from international cricket anytime soon.

Rohit and Kohli last appeared for ODI cricket in March 2025, during the ICC Champions Trophy of the UAE. 

Rohit, in fact, played a memorable knock in the final of the tournament, guiding India to its first ICC ODI trophy in 10 years.  Kohli too had a strong tournament, showing that the senior duo still has plenty to contribute in the 50-over format.

Since they are not active in Test or T20I cricket, ODIs remain the only international format where fans get to see the legendary pair in action. Their sudden absence from the rankings, therefore, caused confusion and concern among fans on social media.
