On Tuesday, August 19, Indian selectors announced India's Asia Cup 2025 squad. The tournament will feature eight teams, which include Pakistan as well. For the past few months, there have been constant demands from different political leaders that India should boycott the Asia Cup or matches against Pakistan in the tournament.
Aaditya Thackarey Blames BCCI For Prioritising Financial Benefits Over Country
Now, Aaditya Thackarey, a Shiv Sena leader (UBT), has written an open letter to Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, on the same issue. In the letter, Aadtiya Thackarey has criticised BCCI's decision to send the Indian team to the UAE for the Asia Cup. He mentioned that it is not right that India will play against Pakistan after what happened in Pahalgam a few months back.
The young leader blamed BCCI for prioritising money over the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and all the people who lost their lives in Kashmir. He added that it has been proved that Pakistan was involved in the attack, so why can't BCCI boycott that tournament for national interest?
Shiv Sena Leader Wants India To Take Tough Stance
He also cited the example of Pakistan backing out of playing a hockey tournament in India, while the BCCI wants India to play in the Asia Cup for selfish interests. Aaditya Thackarey posted the letter on his official X handle. He also wrote in his post that BCCI wants blood and revenue to flow together despite all the misdeeds by the neighbouring country. Thus, Shiv Sena leader has made it clear that India should not play Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025.
It would be interesting to see how the government and BCCI react to Aditya Thackarey's allegations. BCCI has earlier cleared that such decisions are not in their hand and it all depends on the government's clearance.
The Asia Cup 2025 will start on September 9, while India and Pakistan, who are placed in the same group, will play against each other on September 14.
