In the ongoing second Test match between India and New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune, the hosts are in deep trouble and on the brink of losing their first Test series at home since 2012.

New Zealand set a target of 359 runs for India. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started aggressively as they only dealt with boundaries. However, in-form Mitchell Santner drew the first blood for the Kiwis and got rid of the Indian skipper.

Rohit Sharma Falls Prey To Mitchell Santner

Rohit, who is having a terrible series with the bat, fell again as his defence was exposed against Santner. On the 4th ball of the 6th over, Sharma opted to defend a length delivery, but an inside edge off the bat hit his pad and went straight to Wll Young, standing at forward short-leg.

Rohit returned to the pavilion with a score of 8 (16), which featured a solitary boundary. It is worth noting that Santner is having a game to remember as he was the pick of the bowler in the first innings with a seven-wicket haul.

Rohit's Troublesome Form vs New Zealand

In the ongoing Test series, Rohit is having a disaster with the bat, as he has scored just 62 runs in four innings. Further, Sharma scored a fifty in the first Test and barring that knock, the hitman scored just 10 runs in three innings.

Rohit's defence has been exposed several times in this series, as he has gotten out to Tim Southee twice in this series and both times bowled, exposing his weak defence. Further, it was Rohit's seventh single-digit score in Tests this year, which is a concerning sign for India ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

At the time of writing this article, India are 53/1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill looking solid at the crease.
