Mumbai Indians (MI) confirmed Hardik Pandya's signing from Gujarat Titans ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Monday, as the world eagerly awaited confirmation of IPL's most mind-boggling trade. At the same time, the five-time champions have announced they have traded Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

While Hardik’s return to MI was the talk of the town for quite some time, Green’s sudden trade to RCB raised many eyebrows. At the IPL 2023 auctions, MI acquired the Australian all-rounder for a staggering INR 17.5 crore. Nevertheless, he gave his best there, having accumulated 452 runs at a tremendous strike rate of 160.28 in his debut season.

However, MI had to let him go due to Hardik's huge salary cap (INR 15 crore) now in place.

“We are thrilled to welcome Hardik back home! It’s a heartwarming reunion with our Mumbai Indians family! From being a young scouted talent of Mumbai Indians to now being a team India star, Hardik has come a long way and we’re excited for what the future holds for him and Mumbai Indians!,” Nita Ambani said in a statement, released by Mumbai Indians.

The first time Hardik came into the limelight was when MI bought him for INR 10 lakh ahead of IPL 2015. Since then, he has established himself as one of India's most prolific all-rounders. Therefore, when GT acquired him in their debut season, his price tag increased to INR 15 crore.

Meanwhile, with Green’s recruitment, the initial budget of the Red & Gold Brigade has been reduced from 40.75 crore to 23.25 crore. At the same time, Hardik's cash deal has increased GT's remaining budget to INR 38.15 crore before they head to upcoming auctions, scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19.
