India's stand-in captain for the ongoing series against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav, subtly suggested that Rinku Singh's performances in the lower order brought to mind the legendary MS Dhoni.

The second T20I witnessed India secure their second victory in the five-match series with an impressive batting showcase in Thiruvananthapuram. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, and Rinku Singh emerged as standout contributors, setting a formidable target against the Australians.

Rinku is swiftly establishing himself as a proficient T20 finisher for the Men in Blue. Following his match-winning 22 off just 14 balls in the first T20I against Australia, Rinku showcased another impressive knock with a quickfire 31 off 9 balls in the second T20I. His innings featured four fours and two sixes, playing a pivotal role in India reaching a total of 235 for 4 in 20 overs.

"The boys aren't putting too much pressure on me, they're taking responsibility. I told them before the toss to be prepared to bat first. There was a lot of dew after three overs, told the boys to back themselves. When I saw Rinku in the last game, the composure was brilliant. Today's effort too reminds us of everyone who's done this for India,”  Suryakumar Yadav was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the 26-year-old cricketer has been instrumental in several match-winning performances for his Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), over the past two seasons.

Recognising his consistent performances in the IPL and other domestic tournaments, the selectors expressed confidence in him by including him in the squad for the Asian Games 2023, where India secured the gold medal. Rinku has exhibited a confident batting style, offering glimpses of evolving into the next finisher for India, akin to Dhoni, particularly in the latter part of the innings.

KKR's assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, had previously commented on Rinku Singh's potential to follow in the footsteps of Dhoni and Hardik Pandya as a reliable finisher.

After their second win of the series in Trivandrum, India is set to travel to Guwahati for the third T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium against Australia.
