Babar Azam Trolled By Iceland Cricket Over Slumping Batting Average

Babar Azam, once regarded as the rising legend of Pakistan Cricket, entered a rough patch earlier this year. After enjoying years of glorious run-fest, Azam struggled with consistency in 2023.

Babar Azam encountered a brutal downfall as his batting average and run production plummeted significantly. Moreover, the lacklustre performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup acted as a last straw.

Not only did Babar lose his top spot in the ODI rankings, but the batter also had to relinquish captaincy across all formats in the aftermath of the disastrous World Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam has been at the receiving end ever since his form went downhill. In a recent instance of online trolling, Iceland Cricket's official X handle took a direct dig at the Pakistani batter's form dip.

Iceland Cricket Takes A Sly Dig At Babar Azam

Iceland Cricket, widely known for their witty tweets and strong opinions, took a direct shot at Babar Azam's tumbling batting average. While responding to a tweet from 'World of Statistics,' which read, "What is something that still hasn't gone back to normal after the pandemic?" Iceland Cricket's official handle wrote, "The batting average of Babar Azam."

The former Pakistan skipper's average has witnessed a significant dip this year. As of this writing, Azam's ODI average stands at 56.7, the test average is 47.7, and in the shorter format, the average is as low as 41.5.

There is no denying the fact that Babar Azam has been scoring runs. However, the pace at which the runs are flowing off his bat is a point of major concern.

Pakistan bore the brunt of it as, on several occasions, Babar threw his wicket away after getting set on the crease, thus leaving the middle order hanging. The same issue was on full display during the ODI World Cup 2023 as well.

Perhaps the pressure of captaincy got the better of him. It would be interesting to see how Babar Azam rises from these setbacks after relinquishing leadership duties.
