Many had hearts in their mouths when host broadcaster Star revealed Sunil Narine, the heartthrob of Kolkata Knight Riders, was released by the Purple and Gold Brigade ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. However, it did not seem to be the case, as a few moments later there was a glitch from their side, and Narine will keep playing for KKR for future editions.

However, the Purple & Gold Brigade have not retained any of the four well-known fast bowlers: Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur. On December 19 in Dubai, all nine franchises, alongside KKR, will engage in bidding wars, and they will all be put up for grabs.

Among the other popular figures released by the Knight Riders are Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, David Wiese, and Johnson Charles. The message is clear: Gautam Gambhir, the newly-appointed mentor, will be leading from now on, and he intends to make significant adjustments to improve the squad.
