BCCI, the governing body of Indian cricket is likely to bring back the rule of putting players back in the uncapped category after five years of their retirement according to a report by Sports18

If the BCCI does decide to bring back the rule, it will be a big boost to MS Dhoni's chances of playing IPL 2025, and is exactly what CSK had requested to BCCI in the franchise's meet on 31st of July.

The rule was originally in place from the inaugural season but was never used and BCCI eventually decided to remove the rule in 2021. However, with CSK insisting on bringing back the rule ahead of the 2025 auctions, BCCI seems to be seriously considering it before finalising the nature of the next auction.

CSK's Masterstroke And IPL 2025 Auction Rules

There has been lot of uncertainty over MS Dhoni's participation in the next season, and the former CSK and Indian skipper himself had earlier emphasised that he will take the final decision only after considering the rules for the next auction.

According to the current rules, an uncapped player can cost a maximum of 4 Crore to a franchise, and having MSD as one of those players would surely benefit the franchise in retaining the core of their franchise.

Apart from the uncapped players rule, there are other issues like total retentions, RTM card and the nature of mega auction that have been the bone of contention between the franchise and the final decision from BCCI is likely to come around August end.
