In a significant development, the IPL franchises are all set to make their presence felt in England's premier white-ball tournament, The Hundred. It's a competition involving a series of 100-ball matches, followed by an eliminator and a final. Since its inception in 2021, The Hundred has gained massive attention for its unique rules and regulations.

ECB mulling over drawing Indian capital to The Hundred

As reported earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board might sell the shares of The Hundred teams to several IPL franchises in September. This move aims to draw Indian capital to give the league a new financial dimension.

According to The Times of India, even if the IPL teams buy a minority stake in one of The Hundred teams, they might be allowed to rename it after their brand in order to familiarise it with the Indian audience.

The report also claims that Mumbai Indians, owned by the Reliance Industries, are interested to buy stakes in London Spirit and rename it as MI London ahead of The Hundred next season.

"London Spirit are viewed as the jewel in the crown of the Hundred auction and are expected to attract bids worth several times more than many of the other franchises when the ECB begins the process of selling 49% of the eight teams next month," the report quoted by TOI read.

Meanwhile, inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals will likely acquire a stake in the Northern Superchargers, while Delhi Capitals might bid for Southern Brave.

As far as The Hundred 2024 is concerned, Oval Invincibles have qualified for the final, with Birmingham Phoenix set to clash with Southern Brave in the Eliminator tonight.
