Cricketing ties between India and Bangladesh are set to hit rock bottom as the BCCI has reportedly refused to travel to the neighbouring country for a bilateral series, and this was the second time in the space of a year that India has refused to travel to Bangladesh. Moreover, with Mustafizur Rahman released from the IPL, things have gotten heated.
Meanwhile, BCB has demanded that all Bangladesh T20 World Cup matches should be shifted out of India due to security concerns. With so much tension between the two nations, here is an entire timeline of how things escalated.

BCCI postpones Bangladesh tour in July 2025
India was set to travel to Bangladesh for a 6-game white ball series, but the tour was postponed after a mutual agreement between the two boards (BCCI and BCB). However, reports added that the tour was cancelled not because of the congested international fixtures, but due to the geopolitical differences and diplomatic standoff between India and Bangladesh.
Reportedly, security concerns in Bangladesh was also a major concern, due to which the board avoided sending its players to the neighbouring country.
BCB announces revised schedule, India rejects proposal
On Friday, January 2, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced its home schedule for 2026, and the India tour was included in the schedule and the matches were supposed to take place in September.
However, reports circulated that BCCI had once again rejected the proposal and allegations emerged that the India tour of Bangladesh was announced without BCCI’s approval/understanding.
Mustafizur Rahman removed from IPL after tension escalates in Bangladesh
KKR invested heavily in the IPL 2026 mini auction, and they bought Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman for a whopping 9.20 crore. However, soon after his signing, the franchise faced immense backlash due to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh and as a result, mere months before the new season, the pacer was removed from the league.
IPL set to be banned in Bangladesh
The decision to release Mustafizur didn’t go well in Bangladesh, as their Sports advisor directed the Information and Broadcast Ministry to ban the IPL in the nation.
"I have requested the adviser for Information and Broadcasting to ensure that the broadcast of the IPL in Bangladesh is also suspended. Under no circumstances will we tolerate any insult to Bangladeshi cricket, cricketers, or Bangladesh itself. The days of servitude are over," he said to the media.
BCB demands T20 World Cup games to be shifted
Not only a ban on the IPL, but the BCB has also decided to write a letter to the ICC, urging them to shift Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup games from India to Sri Lanka, citing security reasons.

After BCB demanded their T20 World Cup matches to be shifted, BCCI slammed their decision and finally broke the silence as they stand by their decision and no scheduling changes will be made a month before the tournament.
