Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, June 2.

Glenn Maxwell Announces ODI Retirement

Champion Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. The 36-year-old, who made his format debut back in August 2012, concludes his career with 149 matches. The cricketer plundered 3,990 runs from 136 innings at an average of 33.81 and with a strike rate of 126.70, recording four tons and 23 half-centuries in the process.

Maxwell was part of the Australian team that lifted the 2015 and 2023 World Cups in Australia and India respectively. As of now, he has expressed his readiness in representing his nation in next year’s 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Roger Binny To Step Down As BCCI President

Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny is set to step down as BCCI President this July. As per the board’s policy, no individual can hold office beyond the age of 70. It is worth noting that Binny will turn 70 on July 19 next month. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla will replace Binny on an interim basis, as confirmed by the cricket administrator himself.

Shubman Gill, Sudharsan To Miss 2nd Unofficial Test Vs ENG A

Indian Test captain Shubman Gill and his Gujarat Titans teammate Sai Sudharsan will both miss the upcoming unofficial second Test between India A and England Lions. While the two cricketers were expected to link up with the India A squad before the senior men’s Test series in England, a recent Times of India report indicates that both players have been allotted a few rest days to get themselves physically and mentally ready for the impending challenges later this month. It is worth noting that both Gill and Sudharsan recently represented Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.

Women’s World Cup 2025 Gets A Start Date By ICC

The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is set to launch from September 30 onwards later this year in Bengaluru. While the venue will also host the second semifinal, the first semifinal will be played either in Guwahati or Colombo. The tournament in its entirety will be hosted by five venues, including four Indian stadiums and one Sri Lanka stadium. The Pakistan women’s team will play all their matches in Colombo citing Pakistan’s geo-political tensions with India.

Heinrich Klaasen Retires From International Cricket

Explosive South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Aged 33, Klaasen confirmed that he wants to prioritize his T20 league career going ahead.

Having made his international debut back in February 2018 against India, Klaasen played four Tests, 60 ODIs and 58 T20Is for South Africa.
