"Unnecessary Reports" Rajeev Shukla On Rumours Of His Hiring As BCCI President

Rajeev Shukla has dialled down the media hype regarding him replacing former Indian cricketer Roger Binny to become the next President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is worth noting that on Monday, June 2, several reports confirmed that Binny will be stepping down as BCCI President later this year as the board policy does not allow any individual to hold office beyond the age of 70.

Shukla claimed that reports of him replacing Binny as the full-time BCCI President has been “blown out of proportion” by the media, and at best, the second person in hierarchy is merely handed a temporary charge.

Rajeev Shukla says election will decide full-time replacement

Several reports confirmed that BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla will be replacing Roger Binny as board’s next president when the former Indian cricketer steps down from the role upon turning 70 on July 19.

However, while speaking with ANI, Shukla himself confirmed that he will merely be taking temporary charge, and has urged everyone to not give much importance to overblown media reports. He said:

“These are unnecessary reports. When a position falls vacant due to any rule, the second in hierarchy is given a temporary charge, interim charge for the same. So, that is what it is until the next elections. This has been blown out of proportion...There is no need to give it so much importance.”

It is worth noting that Rajeev Shukla was elected as BCCI vice-president back in December 2020. He has previously served as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and has been part of Indian cricket’s administrative structure for many years.
