Pakistan women's cricketer and former captain Nida Dar has found herself at the centre of social media mockery following an ill-timed tweet that has baffled fans. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dar extended her congratulations to the Indian cricket team for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and went on to wish Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli a happy retirement from T20 internationals.

The tweet, however, was posted two months after India’s historic World Cup victory, leading to widespread amusement online.

The post immediately caught the attention of cricket fans and social media users, with many pointing out the delayed timing.

While the sentiment behind Nida Dar's tweet was likely well-intentioned, the fact that she congratulated India in September for a tournament that concluded in late June made her a subject of numerous memes and jokes across platforms.

However, in response to the online backlash, Dar then released a statement providing clarification for the late post, attributing the delay to restrictions on X in Pakistan.

In her follow-up post, Dar shared screenshots of her original message from June 30, 2024 — a day after India’s T20 World Cup victory.

"I initially made this post on June 30th, 2024, but due to restrictions on Twitter in Pakistan, it was posted last night instead, which I learned about through the media. I am attaching both pictures to this post," she explained, attaching screenshots to show the initial attempt to congratulate the Indian team and its players.

Meanwhile, having been stripped off Pakistan's captaincy, Dar will feature as a player in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and it will be Fatima Sana who will lead the side.
